Warning: May Be Habit Forming (Finish Strong Issue No. 3)
Issue No. 3
February 10, 2012
We’ve reached the third week of the Finish Strong! newsletter, so that means we’re officially a habit. One day, we might even be lucky to have a pharmaceutical drug launched in our honor. Until then, we’ll keep pushing this jet pack of social impact goodness your way.
I have another stellar collection of links and posts assembled for you down below. I’d love to hear what you think so far about the first three issues. What’s working? What’s not?
Missed Opportunities: Pink
Last week’s Super Bowl was a great battle between two heavyweight champions. Whether you tuned in for the game on the field, Madonna’s halftime show, or the commercials, I bet you spotted a fair share of missed opportunities.
Did you catch the battle for attention on Twitter between the #SuperCure and #TakeBackthePInk hashtags? It appears people have had enough of women’s health issues being treated as a political football.
What I find most interesting about last week’s pink ribbon-related controversey was how poorly Komen’s leadership misjudged the situation. In dissecting the hairball, it becomes clear that pro-life/anti-abortion groups have been mobilizing their grassroots for many months with the objective of getting Komen to defund Planned Parenthood. Apparently, Komen’s leadership decided the protests and petitions were too great of a risk for them.
Where Komen’s leadership failed….
